Kiwanis Kompanions

In addition to club building, LaMissTenn District recognizes the importance of club strengthening and improving the member experience. Governor Claude’s new tool is Kiwanis Kompanions to help new members connect to existing club members and foster engagement! Governor Claude encourages clubs to implement this program to help new members transition to engaged long-term members!

How does it work?

  • Club leadership partners a veteran or experienced member with a new member to be a second contact for the new member in addition to their club sponsor.

What do Kompanions do?

  • Help give new members a purpose, get them engaged, and show them the Kiwanis Way
  • Introduce them to club members, officers and board members
  • Invite and get them to club meetings, service projects, and club events with reminders, calls – maybe offer to pick them up! Some people are nervous to attend events alone or not good with directions.
  • Encourage them to join a committee or identify their role in a service project
  • Provide guidance and support on KI and your club’s operations by answering questions about your club’s service projects, fundraisers, dues, Kiwanis vernacular (SLPs, KI, DCON, ICON, Leadership), etc.
  • Ask questions such as “Do you have any questions?” or “Is there something you heard that you don’t understand or that needs clarification?”
  • Ask tough questions, if needed, such as “How are you feeling about Kiwanis?”, “Are you bored?” or “What can we do to help you stay or become engaged?”
  • Share your personal experiences, your favorite moments of being a Kiwanian, and your why.
